Organizations Making a Difference in Our Community
daybreak - a project of depaul usa
Daybreak is a day/resource center that provides services to individuals facing the immediate crisis of homelessness. In Little Rock, Arkansas and Macon, Georgia, Depaul USA provides a welcoming place where individuals can get a hot meal, relax, wash up and do laundry, and speak with a social worker and the services they need to move toward lives of stability and dignity.
Daybreak works on removing obstacles in a person's life by establishing a relationship with them, giving them a place to rest, offering services to feel renewed, and connecting them to other community resources in order to help them move from being homeless to a life with increased stability which is a long road, but with the help of a supportive system it can be transforming!
This organization is near and dear to the hearts of members at temple Beth Israel. There are many of us who regularly volunteer during the week, as well as help fundraise and participate in the the greater Macon Sleep out. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please click on the links provided

Each year around the High Holidays, we are provided the opportunity to help those in need in Macon. We ask that any attendee's of HHD services please fill one or more grocery bags with non-perishable items. The proceeds of which all go to a local organization called "Loaves and Fishes." Loaves and Fishes is a faith-based, nonprofit organization, originally started in 1967 in the basement of Tattnal square Presbyterian church. in addition to providing personal hygiene kits, clothing, and emergency prescription assistance, they serve almost 250 families and individuals every month. That's approximately 80,000 meals!

Macon rutland lions club
Lions give sight. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward their mission of providing vision for all. We have extended our commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts and through our international SightFirst Program, which works to eradicate blindness. Lions also help during disasters. Together, our Foundation and Lions are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies – and aiding in long-term reconstruction.
Lions award grants. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than $700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. LCIF was also ranked the number one nongovernmental organization in a 2007 study by The Financial Times.
